TB500 is a 43 amino acid synthetic peptide analog of the active portion of thymosin Beta 4, a naturally occurring peptide in mammals produced by the thymus gland. TB 500 thymosin beta is a relatively small long peptide with a molecular weight of almost 5 g/mol.
An examination of animal studies shows broad functionality of thymosin beta 4 or TB500 with improving various anti aging and disease processes including: wound healing, cardiac, nervous, and regeneration of damaged tendons and ligaments, improvement of neurological disease symptoms, and improvement in kidney and liver diseases. The Tb 500 peptide is studied with a particular interest in the areas of spinal cord tissue repair, bone repair, muscle growth, and ligament wound repair, as well as anti aging medicine.
TB500 and Peripheral Tissue Healing
In an animal model, mice that were given TB500 showed much stronger healed fractures and blood vessels than the control group. The Mice treated with TB500 thymosin Beta 4 had an increase in peak force to failure as well as improved connective tissue repair. After the mice were treated with tb-500 post-fracture imaging showed substantial improvement in wound healing compared to subjects who did not receive TB-500, less scar tissue, and an increase in trabecular bone area.
This suggests that the TB 500 thymosin beta promoted the repair and regeneration of blood cells and connective tissue, as well as faster bone and muscle healing with fewer complications.
TB 500 Peptide and Kidney Health
Another study in mice suggested that low natural levels of Thymosin Beta 4 or tb 500 might accelerate the progression of known kidney disease. This correlation suggests that the body’s natural thymosin Beta 4, which is present in healthy individuals, appears to protect the kidney and may potentially help reduce the progression of kidney disease in animal cells. This may be due to the tendency of TB-500 to promote growth of new blood vessels.
TB-500 and Nervous System Repair
TB 500’s effects on spinal cord and traumatic brain injury have been studied in rats with potential applicability to repair and regenerate mammals. In one study, TB-500 was administered to rats after induced spinal cord injury. The rats that received the TB-500 treatment showed significant improvements in their locomotor skills and behavior when compared to the control group of rats. The levels of inflammatory cytokines were reduced, the size of scars was markedly reduced, and levels of myelin proteins were increased above those in the control group.
TB-500 has also been shown to improve brain function after a traumatic brain injury (TBI). In rat studies, TB500 has been shown to promote cell migration forming new blood vessel growth, create new brain cells, and establish new connections between existing brain cells.
TB500 and Eye Health
A recent study observed the effects of TB 500 thymosin Beta 4 on subjects with diabetic retinopathy. After administering TB500 eye drops to test subjects, researchers found that recovery time was greatly reduced following surgery. Corneas from test subjects affected by diabetic retinopathy contained less thymosin Beta 4 or TB500 than healthy corneas. In addition to this main group of test subjects, those suffering from chronic dry eye were given thymosin Beta 4 synthetic version TB-500 eye drops and noted an improvement in symptoms with very few complications.
Anti-inflammatory and Cellular Repair
TB 500 thymosin Beta 4 showed acceleration in recovery from burns, diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, stasis ulcers, and epidermolysis wounds in subjects. TB-500 thymosin Beta 4 is known to promote muscle cell growth and mitochondrial RNA replication. TB 500 thymosin beta promotes cell building protein and reduced inflammation and has been shown to help regenerate muscle fibers and address inflammation in the injured location, providing accelerated muscle regeneration.
Known mechanisms for this effect include but are not limited to: improvement in blood cell and blood vessel formation, anti-inflammatory activity, and an increased platelet aggregation at wound sites.
